I love this time of year. Here in the Pacific Northwest, the sun is shining. School is almost out. Flowers are starting to bloom. Baseball is in full swing. And best of all it’s time for the Bloggers’ Quilt Festival hosted by Amy at Amy’s Creative Side.
Do you remember the Swimmy Quilt of the 1st grade class? I love this quilt. It is like having a baby. I worked and worked and watched it grow from a pile of fabrics and handprints to a beautiful quilt 9 months later. My blood, sweat, and tears are buried into it. I watched it blossom from an idea in the back of my head into a gorgeous work of art.
I used all of the 1st graders handprints to make fish. Each hand print is embellished with embroidery to look like a fish. I love the Kaffe Fasset’s fabrics in the borders. It gives the playful edge that this quilt needed.
We sent it off to be auctioned, and like a proud mama, I watch for the world to embrace this quilt as I have. All along, secretly hoping for the quilt to come back home to me.
Thank you to my husband of the year (oh yeah, he scored big), he won the quilt at the auction for me! That’s right, my baby is coming home to hang in our playroom. I quilt to make others happy, to keep others warm, for others to snuggle with. I am so happy to have this beauty hanging in my house! For me to love under!
Thank you Amy for giving me the opportunity to share this with the rest of the world.

Great quilt – cute idea for a way for all the kids to be represented. Your husband is a darling for buying the quilt for you. He sounds like a keeper for sure.

Very sweet quilt! What a special project…
That’s a wonderful quilt! I recognized the “Swimmy” design because I enjoyed reading that book to my grandsons when they were little boys. It’s no wonder this is such a special quilt to you.
