  1. I’m back for now with a Sweet Stack

    May 19, 2013 by bigmamaquilts

    Winding Ways Stack

    It has been a while… hasn’t it?!?

Life has been busy, very busy!

I have discovered instagram and LOVE IT!  Follow me @bigmamaquilts

Here’s what has devoured my sewing time last month:

HexyMF progress — Still working the yellows.  I have discovered I really enjoy hand piecing these.  I keep them in the car to occupy my time during the carpool line and tae kwon do practice.

    HexyMF Yellows

Winding Ways — Such a sweet stack… more to come with this one.  The lovelies below are mostly from Fort Worth Fabrics Friday bundles, and can be found here . The rest was rounded out from my stash.

Here is a glimpse into how this will come together.

The curves are fairly gentle turns, but the little blade rotary cutter is a definite help!  Just in case you missed it….  Iron Man needed a nap :)

Have a great week!  I hope to keep posting on this quilt as it comes together!

  2. Believe.Do Good Stitches

    April Orb 1

Believe.  Do Good Stiches.  A modern charity bee.  How cool is that?!?

I enjoy sewing for others.  I really enjoy sewing fun blocks for others.  When the group, Do Good Stitches, popped up on my radar, I knew it was the charity for me.  Jennifer at Knotted Thread is organizing our circle.  I am excited to see how the quilters will pull these blocks together for My Very Own Blanket.

The April block is the Octangonal Orb block from Oh, Frannson!  I drooled over this block during the Modern Quilt Guild 100 days of Blocks.  I knew that I wanted to try it.  Jennifer asked for cool colors, like blues, purples, and greens.  I was excited about the block and the good deed. Dang, if I wasn’t terrified about the color choices.  I LOVE how these blocks pulled together with my colors.  I am hoping to make another set for me!

  3. March Stash Bee Hive #3

    March 11, 2012 by bigmamaquilts

    stash bee March 2012

I have always loved quilts that have a scrappy look, as well as the quilting bees from days gone by.  What is better than a quilt made by friends?!?  I finally joined an online quilting bee  organized by Sunni.  And one that uses up my stash, so I won’t have to buy tons of fabric each month. Double bonus!

March is the first month for our group, and it is exciting to see the different blocks come together on Flickr!

Deb requested batiks.  Three green batiks with a light, medium, dark, and a medium pink to mauve batik for a petal.  I knew that I had just the fabrics.  I went through quite a batik phase when I discovered Judy Neimeyer’s double wedding ring pattern.  It is beautiful, but on a to do someday list.  Deb’s block is perfect to use up some of those fabrics that I had.

Deb this will be heading your way on Monday!

  4. Too many irons in the fire

    Lunch (Bento Box) Bag

I have about eight too many irons in the fire. In the last 30 days, we have endured a 4-day power outage, two bouts of the throw-ups, two bouts of strep, and one crazy mama in cruch time with an auction quilt due soon!  But with the flurry of scrap projects going on here and here and here… I was also inspired to use up my ever growing mound of sraps to make this Lunch bag and a great border!

One little, two little, three little Kaffe's, four little, five little, six little Kaffe's

And I truly am grateful for a wonderful supportive hubster that hasn’t complained about not eating dinner in the dining room because of all of that Kona white!
